12 Byzantine Rulers (Podcast series)
The History of The Byzantine Empire
This is such a find. This lecture series starts from Diocletian and continues on to Constantine (THE Constantine), goes on to Justinian (my favorite in the series, especially because of Bellasarius and his amazingness) and then on to Irene (first lady emperor, not empress — what a disaster that turned out to be) and ends with Constantine XI at the Fall of Constantinople, where Mehmed II puts an end to the medieval empire.
This saved me from endless hours of boredom in traffic and instead got me all excited about a nearly forgotten period. Mr Brownworth is working on a book right now, spanning 1,200 years of Byzantine history. It is due out in 2009. I, for one, cannot wait.
